In the book of
Numbers, we find that there were 12 spies who were sent to spy out the
land. They brought back a report that the land was good, fruitful, and that
it flowed with milk and honey. In that same account in Numbers, Caleb said,
“Let us possess the land. We are well able to overcome." The people that
went with Caleb believed that the giants were stronger. Afterwards, Joshua
searched the land and spoke to the people and said that the land is an
exceedingly good land. In fact, his exact words were, “the land we passed
through and explored is exceedingly good. If the Lord is pleased with us,
He will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will
give it to us. Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not be afraid of
the people of the land, because we will swallow them up. Their protection
is gone, but the Lord is with us. Do not be afraid of them.” (Numbers
14:6-9, NIV)
Throughout the
book of Joshua, the words, “be strong and of good courage” are found. The
Joshua Project enhances what the Lord has already given Bethany Christian
Church. It improves upon our ministry space. It makes it handicap
accessible and state of the art. It will be a blessing to the community,
and a blessing to and for our congregation. As people of faith, we “walk by
faith not by sight” and God is on our side.
